Title
Top Friends

Short, concise description of the idea
A top friends feature, similar to MySpace.

Full description of the idea
A couple of ljers and I have tossed around the fact that there should be a top friends feature for us. Or "my favorite ljers" or something like that. 10 people max. And having the option of wanting the feature or not.

Currently, you could approximate this by creating a Custom Friends Group with your favorite friends in it. If you mark that group as public, you can link to that view of your friends page so everyone can see the public entries from those people. You could also devote a section of your profile bio to listing those friends, possibly including their userpics as well as their names, and linking to the custom friends group.

However, it would take a bit of doing to put that together, and it wouldn't, say, update both the bio section automatically if you removed someone from the custom friends group or removed them from your friends list entirely, and it wouldn't update if someone got a new default userpic.

Like azurelunatic said, you could put it all together yourself. I personally wouldn't be terribly interested in having such a thing on my LJ: if I was, I'd use something more like Myspace or Facebook.

It would be nifty to have a client or something that would read the members of a custom friends group, retrieve their userpics, write their names, and put them all in a grid that was easy to arbitrarily re-order, and then generate code for you to post it places.

Making an easy way to (optionally) share a custom friends group sounds good, but I don't see that matching up to the original suggestion.

No thanks. Drama ahoy! If you really want to list who your 10 favourite LJers are you can do so in your journal style/profile/etc, and if you want to view just their journals, you can use filters.

lol. "I'm NOT on your favorites!" Or "I'm #4 and NOT #2"
