Why not? If this is an issue, it's certainly a simple fix to use the different colors.

I wanted to post something like this as a suggestion because this happened to me a while ago. I deleted and an entry by accident. I don't remember the warning, I guess I clicked through it too quickly.
I was so mad and sad because it had comments as well so I couldn't just write it again. When I posted an entry in my journal about it, friends commented saying they too had done that in the past. So I think it really is a problem.

I would suggest to make the delete button with a red warning triangle, or smaller or a different colour. Red on mouseover? And most importantly to place it differently, not directly next to save, but somewhere else, out of the way. The time delay is also a good idea.

This suggestion is 2 years old. Any chance it is going to be implemented soon?
