Have you considered monthly header contests?

Full description of the ideaI love the new anniversary header and I hope it stays up for a while. The darker blue gradient is really pleasing to the eye

So would the banner stay up for the whole month until the next one was picked?

Should there be an award? like an extra userpic slot?

As long as it doesn't break my look. :p I have a script that modifies the CSS of the LJ pages back to the "Holidays 2006" look, and this new Birthday theme broke it quite spectacularly. I disabled it, and thankfully I sort of like the birthday theme so I don't mind too much. It's close! Although the drop-down menus are still in light blue, whereas during Holidays 2006 they were also dark blue. It would be annoying if I had to modify my CSS every month to fit a particular theme of the month.

whoa! yeh i think if this idea ever takes off, users should definitely have the option to turn the "banner of the month" on or off.
