1- checking that the card wasn't revoked/reported stolen (if a credit card)
2- What if the payment wasn't made by credit card? (eg, PayPal or Web Money)
3- Is there a way to tell "I used my plastic to pay for my account" from "I used my plastic to give some paid time to gerg, who coincidentally went backpacking through Lower Elbonia 10 days ago and has no Internet access..."

I love the idea behind it, but it feels like we get a lot of those requests back saying that it can't be verified, cause of PayPal, old payments, etc. :\ (Though, since we don't get back the ones back that can be, maybe my samples is a bit biased. =P)

I also worry that we'd get a lot of "VERIFY IT I WAS PAID" that couldn't actually be verified.

Also, unless someone regularly switches banks, the stolen wallet might well have a credit card with the same number used to purchase LJ services.

Ah, I assumed that LJ stored it somewhere, not that we had to go look externally. In that case, I think we can consider the suggestion withdrawn.

Marking as withdrawn at the moment, but would a form to fill such information in, with rules to standardize the information, be of use to the people who have to check it, rather than receiving it every which way in an email from someone who doesn't necessarily know what information is needed?

I don't think this would work for people with permanent accounts. I don't remember what credit card I used almost 10 years ago.
