I would like advertisements with audio to not be allowed onto the website. Visual ones are enough.
An ordered list of benefits
  • Less taxing on older computer's memory and processor

There are times when audio is a pain -- and it does require more computer resources, certainly.

Agreed. I think this was one of the initial guidelines when ads were first introduced.

To the OP: Your "list of problems/issues involved" probably belong under "ordered list of benefits." ;) I got rather confused at first when I read them. That section is meant for drawbacks of the suggestion, such as developer time or possible loss of revenue.

But that said... I'm all for this.

Well, it's more likely that non-guideline conforming ads have been slipping through from the network. This has been happening since around the beginning of ads. Audio is the least of it--sometimes the ads have had malware.

If the ad gets reported, they generally can hunt it down and remove it from circulation. But they don't have the capability to review every single ad before it's served.

Then again, it's possible that the guidelines have changed and that audio ads are allowed now--but if they're doing in on purpose...ick.
