This idea has come up before, but always in comments and never as the suggestion itself:

I see. Well, I guess this makes it an official suggestion by itself. And I think I have the best implementation....

Say, why does this not show up when I go to http://community.livejournal.com/suggestions/ ?

It got pushed off the first page when a bunch more suggestions came out. Quite a few of this latest batch are pretty old so the recent postings are not dated in anything like the order in which they hit the community. (Woes of a moderation queue.) Right now it's on the 2nd page: http://community.livejournal.com/suggestions/?skip=20

Weird, I just noticed how the community entries are dated all out of order. No wonder it was hard to see.

Would it be a great deal of trouble to make this happen? If so, it wouldn't be high on my personal list of things I'd like. I'm constantly starting an entry and finishing it later, but it's already possible to edit the time, so it doesn't really bother me, personally...

I would love this, as I edit the time to current every time before I post it. Either this idea or it somehow taking the current time and submitting that when you click post, (and having an option to not use this, obviously, for people that want to manually set their time)

This is one of the reasons I love using iJournal and I'm guessing Semagic has a "current time" feature?

It should totally be done for LJ's own update.bml page. If I didn't use an RSS reader that highlighted when new posts were made, I would miss a lot of posts that aren't made with the time updated to "current".

Semagic automatically updates the time to the computer's clock's current time unless there's a box unchecked to stop doing that.

Cool. I bet most of the clients have this feature. Do you know why LJ wouldn't want it or hasn't done it yet?

From my understanding of programming, which is somewhat limited, this is something that sounds like it would be easy to do client-side (just ask the computer's clock what time it is) but harder to do browser-side (requires constant updating across the internet or heavy scripting). It sounds like something that a lot of people would like if it happened, but a lot of work for a minor improvement that might not work right for everybody.
