Similar need, different proposed implementation: http://community.livejournal.com/suggestions/880379.html

good idea. you mean kind of a clickable list of all major tags so they get pasted at the current position? I'd be happy with that :)

That suggestion was about a visible reference on that page, rather than a clickable list.

The RTE does not work well as is, and adding more "features" will make it more broken and more ugly.

Although this is insensitive of me to say: Users should learn HTML. It's the interwebz.

Even though I don't think I'd use them and I don't really see the point of using this editor if you don't want to type HTML,I would say yes if these buttons didn't take a long time to load. On the Rich text editor they do. Would it be different then? I don't think so.

puh, I'm not a programmer myself. so would suggest to just have buttons for links, images, perhaps: bold/italic/underscore. I guess everything else users would prefer to write the more complex code

That's exactly the kind of buttons you have on the Rich Text Editor, you know. Why should LJ tinker with the simpler, no-nonsense interface when there is another interface with such buttons?

because they already do with the 2 buttons of whom 1 is not working in every browser. and the Rich Text Editor is slow and more for the beginner... + there are nice Opera users out on the internet

to be true, it's mostly to get the syntax in a quick way. I really would enjoy to have a button to just fill in the hyperlink tag, but I wouldn't need some dialog box, only the tag snippet. same for . I guess it wouldn't blow up the code

Er, no, please. I'd rather not have the HTML editor become a RTE lite, and in the process break the one way of posting that has the best chance of working with all browsers.
