I don't really like this idea, it seems kind of invasive of someone's privacy to just suddenly have random friends suggestions in their inbox.

Easy, convenient trolling, too eg, by suggesting that they friend someone they're guaranteed (or very likely) to object to. (Since you would basically be able to recommend to anyone that they should be friends with anyone else.)

This makes sense on the target user's profile as it is implemented on Facebook ( ... )

Have you seen the "Popular with your friends" module on My LJ? Pretty similar.

That's a good idea. Messing around with that module is better than friend suggestion, I think.

Since I didn't give my opinion in the first comment: I don't like the original idea, or any sort of variation on it. If you want to suggest User A to User B, just drop User B a comment or message; you can even post about User A in your journal if you desire. Recommending a user doesn't really deserve special attention.

I'm afraid I don't really care for this idea. Sorry.

If someone really thinks two of their friends would get on, then I think it's far better and safer to have to go to the trouble of writing a comment/LJ message/email or something - rather than just tick a box.

I agree.

I just had a long time mutual friend suggest that I might like one of her other friends. We looked at each other's profile and friended each other. No muss, no fuss.
