Title
Adult content warnings should respect existing cut tags

Short, concise description of the idea
Posts which already have a cut tag should not be completely hidden if they are marked as having adult concepts or content; instead, they should be rendered as normal, with the warning page appearing between the cut and the full post.

Full description ( Read more... )

This could probably be done simply by enabling lj-cuts on entry view, then giving users a choice in viewing options of how they want adult cuts to behave: go to the fully entry or reload the current page without the adult cut for that entry in particular.

The whole "adult content" concept is ludicrous and ought never to have been introduced to LJ. Better spend your time on getting it removed than in making cosmetic changes.

The adult content concept is a good idea put in place with a bad goal.

There's nothing wrong with letting users indicate that they don't want to see certain types of content, or that they want to be protected from seeing it accidentally. There isn't even anything wrong with helping parents keep an eye on what their kids are doing. (That's the reason it splashes a big "18+" on the screen.) What's wrong is that it can be imposed by outside people (the Abuse team), and that as currently implemented it's unusably indiscriminate. There's nothing we can do about the former issue, but maybe we can fix the latter.

It's ludicrous because it's impossible to get people to agree on what's defined as "adult content" or from what age it should be applied. The only thing having such a thing does is encourage teenagers to lie about their age. And it's definitely not LJ's business to help people babysit their kids.
