If LJ did this, they'd have to do a McCain one, too, since LJ is presumably nonpartisan. Then you might have the Libertarian and Green and Constitution party constituents wondering where THEIR v-gift is, and maybe some straggling Clinton and Paul supporters as well.

Yeah, I don't see why you shouldn't milk both sides - all sides - if they're prepared to pay.

You can't do that without also adding a McCain gift, and not all users are American.

No.

Not all users have to use them. I am all for V Gifts for elections and what have you in other countries. Besides, you don't have to be American to support a candidate.

I'm just imagining how much fun it might be when they start adding v-gifts for Israeli parties...

Obama folks can make Obama userpics (I've seen 'em do it) and can put any graphics they like on their profile pages. That's sufficient.

I think they should make them for all the major candidates. (Dem, GOP, Indie, Green, Libertarian)

No, thanks. Too much of a bag of trolls.

As much as I would enjoy an Obama v-gift, I agree completely with everyone else's comments. How do you determine who's a legitimate enough candidate for any given election - not just US ones, Russian ones, Canadian, Tasmanian, etc - to have a v-gift created for them? What would an Obama v-gift look like - and would we have to acquire permission to use his campaign's probably-trademarked logos or copyrighted phrases? (If a candidate offered his logo up with a Creative Commons license, well ... but none do, afaik.) What if one candidate approves and another one doesn't?

Too many issues to make anything official, like v-gifts, doable.

Politics might not be the best v-gift motivator, frankly.

(I'm an Obama supporter, too, by the way...)
