Animated ads -- especially Flash ads -- can be a pain for everyone, whether you're using a dial-up connection or not.

I continue to favor static ads. I realize ads pay for things, but the more animation, the more annoying they are. Personally, I'm much more likely to read an ad if it's static!

I continue to prefer no ads whatsoever, and realize this may be a foolish, Utopian dream... nevertheless I persevere and continue to reply thus to all such advertising-related suggestions.

Animated ads are horrible and annoying. And LiveJournal certainly used to have a clause in its advertising code of practice that said animated ads must stop after three seconds, but I think they removed that.

The trouble with having an option to turn these things off is that everyone would click it - might as well go the whole hog and remove animated ads completely. Not that I believe there's any chance at all of that happening.

I have no problems with animated gif adverts, but really hate Flash ads, because they slow my computer to a crawl. I only put up with that from Flash content I've chosen to open, such as iplayer.
