Sure, why not? I'm not sure I see why the idea of trading is such a big deal in the first place...

(I always wondered if this was about the primary user group age at LJ being teenagers -- reflecting a desire to avoid drama with said teen users.)

If two people are in agreement...

This also raises the issue of that original validated email address simply no longer existing........in any form. This suggestion would also address that issue, giving one a way to fix that.

It wouldn't "fix" that, though - the suggested procedure involves "un-validating" the first email address by accessing an email sent to it. If you have lost the original email address, you won't be able to go through with the process, so nothing would change for you. This is a good thing, in my opinion. If you'd allow someone to remove the primary email address without having access to it, you'd make it possible for every intruder to remove the account owner's primary email address and make the account their own forever ( ... )

Hm, makes sense. A bit too bad, though, as in my case, not only will that email addy no longer exist, the domain itself will cease to exist. They completely changed their system including the domain.

As a variation, how about the ability to change the original one? I think I may have signed up with my school account, before I started stocking up on google accounts, and my school account is being closed in the next few months since I'm leaving the school. What happens to my account then?

Keep an eye on lj_releases regarding removal of the first validated email address on the account. This is currently receiving developer planning time.
