I'd like to see the ads changed, no doubt about it. Minimizing the size would be a step in the right direction...

(And mind you, I have a Permanent account -- but still...)

I don't know this for a fact, but I would imagine the companies paid for a certain sized ad.

The mockup shows the same amount of ad space, but the only problem I see is that I'm sure Google wants its name still on the ad space. Also the customize ad settings link, and the header mentioning that it's an ad probably should be retained. However, if those three things were put into the same line along the bottom, or something, the size could be adjusted a little and not look so awkward and bulky.
