Short, concise description of the idea ScrapBook should allow MP3s to be hosted

Full description of the idea Sometimes when I post an entry, I have a song or two that goes along with it, often related to the content of the entry. I've seen a few of my other friends do this, and I think it would be useful. A while ago ( Read more... )

I'm pretty sure there are licensing issues with this, nice idea as it may be.

With regard to the MP3 format itself, or the copyright of individual things that might be hosted in MP3 format? I'm sure the latter isn't a problem any more than it is with picture or video hosting...

The MP3 format technically isn't free (like Ogg is, for example), but then again, neither is GIF or JPEG, and neither of those are restricted from uploading. Also, phone posts have the option to be in MP3, so it's not like LJ isn't already hosting that file type.

Too bad. It is a nice idea...

(And I certainly have friends who find ways around any legal issues... smile... But I think it's too much trouble to bother with, personally...)

It seems like a logical step, and I've been wishing for it for awhile. I can't see it ever happening, but I'd love it if it did.

Heh, and "Vox does it!!" is no longer a valid argument. :-P

It's not if you see it as "Vox does it and Vox is 6A too", but it is if you see it as "Vox does it, and Vox is sort of a competitor / similar kind of site".

If Livejournal enables MP3 then you'll have people joining livejournal to make themselves music download blogs via livejournal, could be bad i.e copyright etc.

And those users should be banned, like in others hosting services, and like other LJ users violating the Terms. So there is no problem. I believe this feature will not cause all pirates to swarm into LJ an pay for account only to stuff their illegal content, they have loads of better solutions. LJ is just not handy enough for these purposes, and should not be because of aiming different goals.
