The iPhone's web browser is noticeably retarded in several critical aspects, however there are many other phones on the market with quite full web browsers.
So a more fully featured LJ Smartphone to supplement LJ Mobile, and which assumes a fully-featured HTML browser but a small screen, would be a win.

I'm all for a platform-agnostic mobile phone interface to LJ that uses rich HTML, JavaScript, etc. I figure the iPhone is a good starting point because Apple's documentation for web developers is very extensive. That'll make it easier for Six Apart's devs to get this rolling.

The point isn't that the current mobile solution doesn't work. Take the Facebook mobile platform as an example. Which would you rather use on your iPhone.

Sorry for the late comment--only just going through tagged posts regarding suggestions... T_T

I don't see why only users with a REALLY EXPENSIVE PHONE should get this benefit. I'd rather see streamlining of the mobile site in general.
