Title
Export entire journal

Short, concise description of the idea
Instead of requiring the user to export month-by-month to distribute database load on exporting an entire journal, have LiveJournal do the work by spreading out the load over 24 hours and then providing a link to download the journal.

I love this idea. If the user has enough LJ storage space, the file could just be saved in a scratch area until the user deletes it. If the user doesn't have enough storage space, LJ could say in the email "download it in the next X days", or we could require that the user provide an FTP address for LJ to ship the archive to or something.

Heck, you could always just make it a plus/paid/perm feature.

1. Strictly for Paid/Perm users only.
2. (backend) Use Schwartz to queue it, and send it as an email with an attachment when completed. Do not store it at the servers at all.

I totally agree on point #1. I don't understand point #2, but sure.

Supposing it's large enough to totally squash their mailbox, or be bounced?

Really? Two thousand entries two kilobytes each (in average) is four megabytes, which is perfectly OK.

Well, if it's larger, it can be splitted, gzipped, and sent in parts. As for their inbox, they should be warned, but it's not LiveJournal's problem at all.

I would love something like this.

This would definitely make my backup-keeping easier. Though I'd definitely understand making it a paid/perm feature, working in a similar fashion to the automated edit journal privacy page.
