If you've got one journal you use for every day use, but you've created a couple others for special interests, maybe making it to where you could post to the others from the main one.

I think you do something like this from some clients...? I'm not really sure, as I don't do it myself and am not really interested in the concept.

I'm not sure what this brings that you don't get by creating a community with you as maintainer and sole poster.

Date out of order, a full suite of different specialized userpics, ability to add other "project journals" as friends vs. other ordinary users, ability to post as the project journal to (other) communities.

Also, you can convert a personal journal to a community later on, but you can't convert a community to a personal journal.

I'd think this would be an expansion (programming wise) of the ability to control a community account from a personal account, and I know it would make a lot of users who are active in the RPG subculture on LJ very happy, though I know there are other users who have reasons for having additional journals.

If this is done, would the primary account be listed on the profile of the subaccount or would the primary account profile list subaccount profiles? I'm not sure what I'd think if that was done, as I know some people keep secondary journals to avoid hurting feelings or distract family/friends from finding their journal with the more personal/private thoughts, however on the other hand, if this feature was implemented without adding notification to the primary or the subaccount profile as to who's in control of the subaccount, it would make it easier for malicious sock puppet posting.

If it's going to be easy to switch between a primary journal and a sub-account/project journal, I think the relationship should be shown on both profiles. People are already creating multiple regular journals for various purposes, and a link is not shown there. Maintainers even of closed and completely friends-locked communities are shown, even though sometimes these maintainers would rather have more privacy.

I suppose if someone has a reason (valid or not) for wanting to hide the relationship before the journals, they can simply opt to control the multiple journals the way it's currently done. This avoids enabling lazy trolls, and makes sure those who are hiding the connection have a reason important enough to themselves to make it worth the extra effort.

I was thinking over the topic at more length this past weekend, and I got into the idea of project journals and whether they should be treated like communities or like personal journals as far as security is concerned.

Obviously journals who the project journal has added as a friend should be able to comment to the project journal if they have friends-only commenting enabled.

Should the project journal be allowed to comment to other journals? (Yes, I think.) Should the project journal be allowed to comment to journals who have added it as a friend if they have friends-only commenting enabled? I think so, especially for the case of locked RPGs.

Should a project journal be allowed to see the locked entries of journals that list it as a friend? Personal journals are allowed to do this, but the maintainer of a community that you're the member of is not allowed to do this. This is one of those things that I can't even begin to wrap my brain around, because there are arguments for both.
