Making it so for anyone to view your journal from your username they have to enter a password

Hmm. That wouldn't help much (at best), and I think not at all:
- If you don't log out and I walk to your computer while you're away, I can check your entries without actually viewing your journal, by going in "edit entries".
- I don't have to do that either, since I can remove that "protection", or make your journal public then log out. (And you couldn't plug that hole by using the "read password" mechanism that's part of the HTTP standard, because browsers cache that information, and supply automagically each time the site asks for it after the first time, until you exit your browser.)

In addition to what everyone else said, password protecting your journal isn't a solution because of all the other things you can do on the site while logged in; for example, someone could add a bunch of friends to your journal who would have access to all your Friends-Only entries.
