Weather

Short, concise description of the idea
I'd like to be able to include information on the current weather with my posts, like the little icons that appear if you download a weather toolbar or box.

Full description of the ideaI came across a site that offers an imbed of the weather for blogs, primarily used (I think) on MySpace...but they ( Read more... )

Could be an interesting currents field to have.

The AccuWeather widget didn't work because scripting isn't allowed on LJ, and most off-site widgets like that use Flash or JavaScript. Weather Underground has buttons that use static HTML and will work on LJ, but they only display the current weather.

Why not just type the weather in your entries? I think it'd be too much of a load on the server to have to determine your location, consult a weather source, and make it part of the metadata.

Too much of a bother, to write about the weather in every post. Takes up more space than something like the 'mood' or 'music' section would (except for weather.) I TRIED typing it in every day for a while, and it's just too much of a pain. You always forget. And you have to go look it up, first, unless you are using a weather toolbar.

Here's a dumb question, though-- if the widget goes in your post, does it STAY what the weather was at that time? Or does it update constantly?

...'cause it'd be hilarious for it to say that it's raining at home, pouring buckets with tornado sirens going off, and three days later have the post saying that the weather is nice and sunny with a northeastern breeze!

I was thinking it would work similar to the mood icon, where once you record your mood for that day, it stays that way. Like, if you're 'happy' one day and then three days later you're 'calm', it doesn't change all the mood section that came before. That kind of thing. :)

I wouldn't even mind having to insert the weather myself, if there was a field for it, like with the title and time and so on. But if there is none, I don't remember to do it.

Too much of a bother, to write about the weather in every post, and I like to be able to look back and see what weather I had on *every* post, not just the notable days. Local weather trends, etc.

I have nothing to say but, hell YEAH. My roomie was just asking about getting the weather on LJ - since scripting and java et all are not allowed, LJ should provide certain features or allow certain embedded types of files like those for weather.

Perhaps in conjunction with a particular site or something?

Not unless there was a way to completely exclude seeing it. I have no desire to record my weather or see other people's. If it's significant, I expect it to be written about in the entry.

I was thinking it would be like the 'mood' or 'music' section. If you don't select it, it doesn't show, kind of a thing.

That section is already getting very cluttered on my friends page, with the addition of the location field.

No one on my friends page every uses the location feature. Unless they put something goofy like 'outer space' or 'la-la land'. Or something you can't click for information anyway, like 'my bedroom'.

Most people (that I know) don't even use the music section, so I never find it cluttered. Plus people just use the ones they want to, and if they want to use them, I like to see them :)
