Make "Current Location" None USCentric

Short, concise description of the idea
Allow users to specify a country code for google maps linking.

Full description of the ideaIf I specify my "Current Location" then a link is added that uses maps.google.com which works fine if the location is in the US but can be pot luck for a location in the UK. ( Read more... )

Can we imagine linking the Current Location feature to the location you've entered in your profile, if it is a valid one? I don't know if that is technically possible.

Almost anything is technically possible. It's more a matter of finding the will and/or manpower and/or money to achieve it. I think this is a great idea.

Ceetainly defaulting to the users country location would fix 90% of the difficulty.

Only problem remaining would be if you wanted to specify a location that you visited on your holiday.

It makes sense- a feature isn't really useful if all LJ users aren't able to utilize it.

And also thumbs up to the suggestion that the default value should be populated from the user's profile (but able to be changed manually, obviously).
