Adding more content to My LJ

Full description of the ideaI think since My LJ has been added to LiveJournal,maybe in the near future you can add more content to the My LJ page. Say My Yahoo page for example..add something Fun* and simple like horoscopes or a comic. I think just a simple FUN thing like ( Read more... )

an expansion upon this idea that might appeal to more users is the ability to add a portal module that displays the most recent (only one? more than one?) entries of a syndicated account, such as one that is of a comic strip.

(this was advanced upon the idea of simply adding rss feeds to create new portal modules, but, we could use the syndicated account feature instead of totally creating a new system to fetch the data.)

Problem being that a lot of comic RSS feeds don't include the comic. Plus the dimensions could get too big really fast.

The problem with this is that right now, My LJ is all LJ-related. In my opinion, when a site starts trying to be all things to all people-- a one-stop "the only home page you'll ever need"-type thing --then what actually happens is that it dilutes the site-specific appeal. I think it's simply not needed.

yeah just thinking something different,seeing livejournal has been working hard on "fixing-up" some new things is all.

Thanks but no thanks. I appreciate the fact that LiveJournal - and consequently My LJ - is strictly limited to LiveJournal. So no exterior services, please.

I meant a bit more on My LJ. Simple. I am sure you guys come up with creative ideas alot. Not any other sites involved. Just an idea,and ideas can lead to anything.

I want LiveJournal to be LiveJournal, not a dumbed-down version of the daily newspaper. If I want headlines, I have a BBC bookmark; other people prefer other news sources. I already have a search engine and a collection of weather sites. Horoscopes are an already-too-common set of falsehoods, and someone has already addressed the problem of comics.

Bear in mind that anything on "My LJ" is going to an international community of users; if it's not worth internationalizing for Russian and numerous other languages, it doesn't belong there.
