From what I've seen, all the data limits they use on this site are there for pretty specific reasons, so no.

But do you *know* there's a specific reason? That's kind of why I posted this - to see if there was, and if there wasn't, hopefully to get it altered.

As for increasing the number of memory categories - oh, gods, no, not if the limit isn't changed.

I agree with increasing the category limit, but not the character limit. There is a reason there is a character limit - each keyword takes space in the memory of the server. Also, databases are often limited by maximum number of characters anyway, so it may not be possible without (although I'm not sure how the lj database works). Also, as you mention, keywords could get long and messy. They are called "keywords" for a reason. They should be short. This facilitates the user who is scanning the memories.

Go take a look at the ljmovies memory section to see exactly what the issue I'm referring to is. Those keywords aren't overly long, but to add five new ones at once requires me to add the same entry to memories 2 or 3 times because no more than two or, if I'm lucky, three movie titles will fit in one go. There are only a few that won't neatly fit into the current keyword limit, but there are a few, and I'm not looking for longer *single* keywords so much as the ability to put in multiple keywords faster and without having to go back and do it again.

The other option is to separate the keyword field into five (or however many keywords you can attach to one memory) different lines and give each a slightly longer limit (say, 65 instead of 50, which I'm fairly sure is what I counted as the limit) - this way avoiding messily long keywords but still allowing for the entry of five keywords at once instead of repeating the process multiple times per entry.

So what you really want is a bigger textbox. That should be just a simple matter of changing a little bit of HTML to specify a textbox size that is five times the maximum number of characters plus a few more, so that you can fit five long keywords into the box.

That would be nice, yes, but I'd also like to incrase the keyword limit by about 15 or so. Of course, I'm not sure how many people need it. Maybe I just ran into a unique situation. But it seems to me that the way ljmovies is using the memory system - more with keyphrases than keywords - is a great idea, and could be - and may be already - used in other communities.
