Title
Opt out of RSS

Short, concise description of the idea
An option to opt out of RSS/ATOM and any other syndication method that LJ chooses in the future

Full description of the idea
Some people aren't happy at the fact that sites like bloglines can duplicate their journal. They don't realise that this is an effect of having an RSS feed of it, and even when told there's nothing they can do about it, because you can't choose not to have an RSS feed.
An ordered list of benefits
  • Give people control over whether their journal is remotely accessible

An ordered list of problems/issues involved
  • Adding _another_ option to the editinfo page
  • Explaining it to people.

An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation
  • I suggest that the option be defaulted to _off_ - so that people can choose to share information externally. That seems to me to be the safer option. Sadly that will break any existing feeds.

syndication, security, § rejected
