What happens if the user died and the next of kin e-mail address is invalid?

Then you have the same situation that exists now. But if it is valid, the situation has been improved.

Yeah.. it's the individual user's responsibility to keep the next of kin address updated and see to it that it is valid.

Great idea. I certainly can see that some people wouldn't want to use it (many people don't let their family know abou their journal), but those people don't have to use it.

I had an online friend dissapear last year. About two months later someone forwarded me her obituary. I would like to have been able to contact her family without jumping though the hoops I had to in order to find out who her family was!

Yeah, it is very frustrating to suspect the worst without any easy way of contacting a family member or finding out such sad news months after it's happened.

I was thinking that is has to be the users' responsibility to keep the next of kin address updated and make sure it is valid.

aw geez..that's really morbid. But I can see the use of it...Maybe call it "contact in case of emergency" rather than "next of kin", lol...

but yeah. Good idea.

it's kinda sad, but i do think sometimes, "If I die, who will tell everyone on LJ?" i really would like this feature implimented.
