I'd like there to be a box that comes up asking if you're sure you want to navigate away from the post an entry page if you accidentally hit back-page or forward-page.

The backup function should save your post in advance, and keep it regardless of how you leave the page. Possibly, what's happening is that navigating forward to return to the page doesn't trigger LJ to check for saved drafts. If this happens again, try opening the Update page in a new tab instead. If you still don't get a chance to restore your saved draft, you could open a support request to find out what's going on there.

I bet you hit the backspace button. I've done that occasionally, but Firefox does save the form data, so it might just be a Chrome issue.

or you could do what I always do for long posts, type it up in a word processor first, then copy and past, that way I get to keep a copy in case LJ burps and eats it
