I don't think SSL on just the posting page would be enough. It will have to be on all pages where such a post gets viewed--all friends pages, all post pages--for everybody viewing, non-opt-outable, to get what you're seeking.

yes, sad - facebook is secured, and LJ is not.

Actually, I'm not sure it's necessary...

(And I think Facebook is ridiculous with so-called security methods.-- I really prefer LiveJournal...)
