This would be a disaster for anon comment!fics memes and - I'm sure - for other stances as well. I am all in favor of this - I would just add a 'turn on/turn off' option controlled by the entry poster. (I guess it would have to be so that you cannot change the option once you've posted the entry/once the entry has at least one comment; and that there would need to be some sort of 'warning' like the one for IP logging.)

This suggestion by the OP would work for some things, where you want threaded discussions people can follow but don't want to reveal your identity, but would really wreck places that are designed to be as anonymous as possible.

I'm okay with making it optional, I just thought it would be easier to implement if the devs didn't have to add new options to the Post an Entry page.
