I have absolutely no desire to have anything to do with games. I don't know if the above is quite what I would like though. What I would like is to be able to have a "I don't give a damn about your stupid farm" filter - i.e - a filter that strips farm updates from my Flist (without filtering out other content from those users).

o_O Where are you seeing farm updates on your friends list? The only place they appear is at the very bottom of the profile page, and that's easily perma-hidden by clicking the black arrow.

So far, I haven't - was barely even aware there were games. But when I saw this post, I had sudden visions of loads of flist entries begging help with building barns, etc - like what happened on my FaceBook flist until I figured out how to block the damned things. If they don't do that on here, then I don't really care about the games.

Yeah, they don't do that on LJ. At most, if one of your friends plays one of the games you might get an invitation, but from what I understand it's limited to only the one invitation.
So yeah, click the black arrow and ignore them entirely.

I'd love to have a way to have gaming hidden entirely. Didn't even think about the addictive quality. I just don't like online games.

For me personally LJ is not about games at all, so I would welcome the opportunity to block them in some way.
