My first thought was to agree with you, then I remembered that we have userpics, and those are user-created and uploaded, and easily fixed with a report to the Abuse team. So actually I think I like this idea. Crazy I know.

Social/financial issue reply: Good point. If LJ are using premium userheads as revenue raises, they'd be disinclined to offer this feature. Although, maybe they'd therefore be inclined to offer user-created custom userheads as another premium purchase... Dunno.

Actually, incorrect: if you were using a transparent userhead, the image and link and roll-over data would all still be there and accessible to mouse or tab. But the visual indicator would be absent, it's true. And these actions are, as you say, available elsewhere.
