Sometimes tags and memories aren't enough; content we can view should be content we can search.

I often wonder if this could be a feasible feature for paid journals only. It's probably not feasible for all journals, though, from staff comments I've seen.

content we can view should be content we can search.

That makes sense to me, but it's not compatible with the mindset that thinks "I want my journal public, but not indexed by Google!" is both possible and a good idea.

I am strongly in favor of this suggestion, especially for searching my own private posts. My journal is mostly private, or accessible to one friend (counselor) only -- it's a real journal, in the sense of a diary, not a social blog. I've had it for 9 YEARS, and I would like to be able to go back and trace my thinking or events on a particular topic. But my whole inner life is not easily reducible to tags, especially over many years. And I don't always know what is significant at the time, what I will want to go back and re-read later, so as to put it in memories. It's often only in retrospect that things turn out to be really important.
