Short, concise description of the idea
When a video is embedded, I would like there to be an automatic text link to the source of the video for those who aren't able to access the video when it's embedded.

Yes, this would be useful. It'd be nice if the embed failed, too, that it would just give the URL instead of an empty comment (especially since Youtube just changed their embed codes).

If there's a way for LJ to check for that, then I agree, that would be very helpful in the case of failed attempts at embedding. (I just pretty much gave up on trying to embed videos for that reason, and always give links to them now.)

I'd find this useful, especially if there was an option to just replace the embedded video with a link to the host's page.

Maybe as a refinement, the link text could be the page title on the hosting site. That would give me a better chance of figuring out what the video is so that I can decide whether I want to start loading it. I've found that not all videos have their title on the preview image that appears when it's embedded.

That's kind of what I had in mind, especially for folks who have video placeholders enabled. Instead of (or perhaps in addition to) the placeholder, it could have the link.

And that would be a nice tweak, also, now that you mention it, whether for embeds or for links. Although not all videos on their source page have titles, most of them do, and... I kind of like to know what I'm going to be spending a few minutes loading before I do so, too. XD

I like this idea. I try to provide a separate source link, but it would be awesome if the embed did that automatically.
