Good idea. I had a friend who was disappointed she couldn't send me a virtual gift. She had no idea I turned off virtual gifts completely.

Because you can enter several usernames in this field, comma-separated, the error message should clarify reasoning for all of the users you cannot send vgifts to, right?

I know at least one of the free gifts recently had that disabled somehow.

I'd need to re-check the error message I get if I input multiple usernames, but I imagine these could be easily adapted.

Or even "The users listed below cannot be sent the virtual gift you have selected. For specific reasons, please send try sending the gift only to them."

Don't forget the scenario where exampleusername has banned you.

I couldn't decide if there needed to be a specific message for that or not. Part me says yes, part of me wonders if it is the place of an automated system to inform people they've been banned from commenting on someone's journal.

Hmm. Wouldn't it be possible to extrapolate that one's been banned if it's the only situation in which one would receive the "generic" message, then?

How is it handled when someone tries to comment on a journal they've been banned from? Does an informative alert prevent them from doing so? (I honestly don't know; haven't tried to comment on a journal I've been banned from; am unaware of journals I may be banned from.)

I'm not sure. I can ban myself from my test account when I get home and find out.
