Would this even work? You could probably filter the roman alphabet from Cyrillic from Japanese from Korean, but what about English vs Spanish vs Italian?

You might hook in an automated language guesser, like Google Translate has, but that would fall over on entries that contain enough of a mix of languages to confuse the program.

One could also implement language-tagging, where a user sets their default language, and their entries go out tagged as that, though they can edit it at entry creation time, or at any point after, in case they're using either more than one language in any given entry, or using different languages in different entries.

Personally, I'd be happy just to eliminate character sets I'm unfamiliar with. I can read a bit of Spanish or French, but anything not in this character set is completely unreadable to me.

Well, what about requiring a language drop down box for users who wish to participate, given the public nature of writer's block? If you wish to answer, you first must select one or more languages, and users can opt into reading only entries labeled with a certain modifier.
