Why not just use the regular LJ site? Isn't the great thing about the iPad supposed to be that you can use it to view regular web pages in all their glory?

No thank you. It's a poor use of developer time.

Out devs might be working on this right now, however; I have little information about it because it's a different department, so they do not really interfere with the regular LJ development, except when they request new API features.

Not to be negative, but just because developers might be working on something doesn't make it a good use of developer time. Just saying. On the other hand, if it's not the developers who are supposed to be working on the actual site that's a different story.

Personal opinion here. From what I've figured, you meant to say that not all the management decisions about how to spend developers time are wise ones; I can only address this by saying that yes, every company, including SUP, makes mistakes like that every now and then. However, I don't think that developing an iPad application is a waste of developers time from the company standpoint -- it turns out that the trend is that users more often access internet from their mobile devices now, so I can see how it is important, if not crucial, for SUP to get some presense on the market.

I don't have an iPad. Out of interest, why is an app required?

Can't you just use the web interface?
Please state what functionality an app would add to the web interface to justify the effort.

yes, but I like to have instant access by tapping on an app! -- sort of one-stop-shopping/instant gratification.

Is it possible you could bookmark the update page and make it an icon on your home screen? Not exactly what you were asking for, but possibly an acceptable stopgap measure until then.

I think this would be a good eventual idea, but I'm not sure if I think this is something that necessarily needs to be rushed into production. Eventually all companies are just going to have to adapt to new technology, but I don't think there's a high enough demand right now.
