Navigational links to numbered comment pages on a Friends or Recent Entries view

Short, concise description of the ideaI would like to have the navigational links to individual numbered comment pages for entries that have multiple comment pages, so that I can visit particular comment pages directly from a Friends page or a journal's Recent ( Read more... )

I follow maybe 3 communities where this might be useful, so from my perspective it isn't something that would regularly help the majority of users. But if it can be implemented without breaking all the styles, I don't see any harm in having that ability available.

Well, places like news and ohnotheydidnt (I sometimes read the former but never the latter), both of which tend to garner hundreds or thousands of comments per entry, could certainly use it. XD And doesn't quite a large userbase read one or both of those? Also, a lot of the *_secrets communities.

I didn't think about news, that would update my personal count to four. The other three I was thinking of were ohnotheydidnt, an ONTD offshoot, and fandom_secrets.

Of those four, news is probably the only one where I'd read all the comments in a given post, and only if it was a post where there was a structural or policy change.

I only read ohnotheydidnt sporadically, so I'm probably not a good test case for that community. Most of the time I avoid the comments there becasue I don't like trash talk and backstabbing.

Okay, nix my original isn't something that would regularly help the majority of users statement. The fact that I follow mostly small communities might not be as typical as I was thinking.

Are there stats for things like that floating around somewhere?

*Nod* I don't read fandomsecrets, alas (much too content heavy... if they could restrict the number of images per entry to maybe half, which would be twenty-five, it would be better for me)... but yeah, that was one of the ones I had in mind. And I do read roleplaysecrets, and for those that are somehow relevant to my interests where I want to see what others have to say (or look for hilarious animated *.gifs), I like to scan all pages, and if I'm coming back to it, I certainly don't want to read everything that's on page 1. XD

Also, there are some feedback/concrit memes and love/praise memes that are posted to a single journal entry, and which garner multiple pages of thousands of comments. I defintely like to come back to those to see who else has posted so that if I see someone I know, I can give them feedback or praise. Again, if I remember that I've already been to page 12, I sure as heck don't want to have to load page 1 just to get to page 13. =P

Not sure, but that would be interesting to find out!

I'll... have to take your word for it, since I'm not a programming guru. XD But it looks like it might make it doable! I'll let our programming geeky types weigh in on this. :3 Thanks!

Oooh, awesome! :D In that case... >.> if I ever figure out how to customize my journal's layout to do more than copypasta add code to create a tags list in the sidebar, I might want to gank this (with credit to you, natch), if you're cool with it. :3

I WANT THIS LIKE BURNING. I have to be annoying LJ's bandwidth with the comms I watch because of this issue. It certainly annoys me, so while it's loading I just load 5 more pages because I don't like waiting. Making it worse.

I've actually been thinking about it for quite some time, but just finally got around to posting it.
