The only way I can see this working is if there were a restricted number of charities that the user can choose from, and then there's the problem of determining which of those make the cut.

But aside from that hurdle (a big one, IMHO), this sounds like a lovely idea.

How about just adding a spoon option, then? Without the link to the charity. It's just another symbol but it means something to the people who know about it. If not, people can point to the article above.

I think that would be better, yes. If it's a widely enough known symbol (which it sounds like it is), then it works for me!
