Alright, first off I should apologize for not posting like I keep promising too. I'm sure quite a few of you forgot who I am by now. So, I'm sorry. RL caught me. Nothing I can do now

2nd degree blackbelt? Fuck yeah! My sensei was a 2nd degree and he was able to kick my ass up, down and sideways (then again, I was a white belt, so...). Congrats! I'm happy to hear your hard work paid off!
Thank you. I really wish I had some film of the event. A lot of black belts that were once instructors came back and tested their skills against their old students - it was awesome. I know my instructor can wipe the floor with me, too. Keep training hard and you'll be able to spar your instructor toe to toe one day, maybe even surpass him. :)
Thanks. Yeah, every martial arts system is different. In Moo Duk Kwan Taeknowdo (my specific style), there are 10 degrees. I've only hear of of people getting to 8th or 9th degree because to be 10th you have to be the creator of the style. Age and experience are a big factor. My studio/dojang is technically a mixed martial arts school because once someone has attained a first degree in Taekwondo, they start training in Hopkido and Judo/Jujitsu to help them become more well rounded as a martial artist. (Taekwondo is a hard standing striking style so Hapkido - a soft style - helps with joint manipulation and pressure points, and Judo/Jujitsu work on fighting from the ground.) And to attain higher degrees, you have to show proficiency in all three styles.
Wow, long reply. Anyway, yeah, sparring is fun. I'm working on uploading those photos now.
Thanks, it went well. I really wish I could have been pitted against a boy when i spared, though. I ended up sparring Lory and gave her a black eye. I'd feel less guilty if it was a dude. :( ...But, yeah, it was fun.
