Title: Let Me stay
Rating: G
Warnings: superfluff XD and irrational Tama
Summary: Haruhi learns that leaving Tamaki is impossible. Because even if she somehow finds the heart to do it, he'll come after her every time.
When Haruhi announced she was leaving for America as a foreign exchange student for one year, she expected Tamaki to take it much harder. She expected tears, drama, and insistences of “if you leave me, I’ll diiiiie!”. She certainly didn’t expect him to nod calmly, congratulate her, and give her a tight hug with assurances of “you’ll do great!”. Given the fact that the unexpected was what she got, however, she should have realized it was too good to be true. She mused heavily on this as she opened the door to her American boarding school dormitory to a knock as she was unpacking and was nearly knocked to the floor by the force of his embrace.
“Haruhi!” Tamaki whooped gleefully, nuzzling against her as though it had been years since they’d seen each other, though she had seen him at Ouran Academy not three days ago when she went in to get the finalizations done on her transfer papers. “I’m so happy to see you!”
“Tamaki-senpai?” overwhelmed, irritated, and shocked, Haruhi stood numbly in his arms and he hugged her tight. “What are you doing here?”
“I’m here to stay, Haruhi! We’re going to be dorm mates!” he said happily, beaming.
“This isn’t a coed dorm,” Haruhi explained calmly, despite the fact that her head felt like it was going to explode. “This isn’t even a coed school. I can’t imagine that the administration said it was okay…”
“They don’t know,” Tamaki told her cheerfully. “So it’s a secret, okay?” he pressed a finger to her lips in a rather childish gesture.
“I’ll have a real roommate,” Haruhi told him coolly. “And I don’t think she’ll approve of you staying here with us.” for a moment, Haruhi was overwhelmingly relieved that her roommate, a studious, stern girl with the same sense of quiet purpose as a science teacher, was not here during this most trying of shenanigans. She could see Tamaki’s eyes starting to drip.
“But I’m sure she’ll warm up to me, Haruhi! I’m really, really sure! We can all live peacefully together and you and I will never have to be apart!” he flushed slightly as he said this, and Haruhi raised one eyebrow.
“Is that what this is about?” she asked him, cool as a cucumber.
“Yes,” Tamaki admitted softly, hanging his head. “I tried to be good, I really did! But being apart from you… I couldn’t stand it, Haruhi! I really, really couldn’t!”
“It’s only been three days…”
“And it was three days too long!” Tamaki wailed. “I don’t want us to ever be apart again! My heart can’t take it! I want to be by your side for ever and ever and ever and…”
Haruhi could sense dimly inside that this was all coming to a rather awkward and unforgivable crescendo. It was like trying to halt a train with a chopstick, but she attempted to put a stop to it anyway. “Tamaki-senpai, maybe you should stop before--”
“Haruhi, will you marry me!?” he declared, loud and dramatic and passionate as he squeezed her tighter, his face the color of a beet. For a moment, they both froze, and Haruhi stared at him, shocked and mildly horrified and inexcusably ecstatic. It took several long moments for her to gain her bearings.
“No,” she answered finally, and she could see Tamaki crumble before her. “We’re both in high school and we’re not even dating, senpai. We haven’t even considered dating! We haven’t even ki--”
Tamaki pressed his lips to hers, cradling her more tenderly in his arms. Haruhi froze and closed her eyes, the fists she had been holding clenched at her sides relaxing into open fingers that gripped nervously at the back of his shirt. “If you won’t marry me, then at least kiss me,” Tamaki whispered before falling to her lips again. She did, clumsily and bashfully, but it was still a kiss and it made him smile against her mouth.
“I love you,” he told her without bothering to part their lips. Haruhi was too out of sorts to reply, so she simply kissed him and gradually moved her arms to loop around his shoulders, forgetting about decency and the fact that he wasn’t supposed to be here right now. She let the spontaneous proposal fall into water under the bridge because she knew in her heart that Tamaki was just like that. Trying to make sense of his actions was useless. It was better to just enjoy time with him and never question his motivations. Some part of her wondered how serious he had been, but she let it go and simply kissed him. It was the first kiss she had ever been purposefully given, and it felt good. Impossible, inescapably, warmly good. When Tamaki finished, they were both blushed and Haruhi was beginning to question her own sanity.
“Can I stay?” he asked desperately, his blue-violet eyes catching hers as he pulled away. “Please?”
“Oh, alright,” Haruhi mumbled against her better judgment, and felt an not uncomfortable lurch in her chest when he beamed. “But just for tonight! Tomorrow, we’ll figure out what to do.”
“Whatever you say,” Tamaki agreed, only half listening as he barreled into her and embraced her tight again, pulling her into a warm a familiar spot against his chest. “I missed you so, so much!”
“I missed you too,” she admitted reluctantly, which only made Tamaki squeeze her harder and begin pressing soft, happy kisses all over the top of her head. Haruhi’s roommate did return mere moments later, and if she was at all surprised or affected by the sight of Haruhi lying on top of the covers of her bed cradled against the chest of a strange boy, she didn’t show it. She simply retrieved the books she had come into the room to get and exited once more, leaving Haruhi to the tender and unfamiliar world of Tamaki’s kisses and murmurs of “I love you.”
“’Love’ isn’t a word you should throw around so frivolously,” Haruhi told him as he professed his love for her for perhaps the thousandth time and kissed her forehead. “You should only say it if you really mean it.”
“I’m not throwing it around,” Tamaki whispered, kissing her lips softly and making her blush, much to her own embarrassment. His voice was as sincere as she had ever heard it. “I do mean it. I mean it more than anything I’ve ever said before.”
Strangely content, Haruhi smiled and settled closer against him. For a moment, she forgot about the future, about the past, and about everyone else in the world. It was an unfamiliar feeling, but not an unpleasant one. Slowly, she closed her eyes and let Tamaki overtake her entire world.
Somehow, she thought with a smile, she had a feeling this wouldn’t be the last time.
