I don't understand why runners/walkers/bicyclists don't wear florescent more often especially when it isn't bright outside. I wear my florescent yellow bike jersey every time I go out. I'm about to invest in a florescent jacket for when it's chilly/drizzly.
They make great flashy lights that you attach to your bike/person that have a flash pattern that is varied (kind of like EMS vehicles) so it catches your attention and they only cost about $30 where as running shoes cost well over $100.
That is really really good! You should post it on street corners and anywhere near where they sell running shoes and such. Sports stores near the mall.. all those places. Its cute and fun but gets the point across completely.
out here the streets are SO well lit that you can see our country from out of space. Still.. joggers wear reflective jackets. it's become a habbit. Joggers can be so dangereous.
We have a major observatory on a mountain peak next to our valley. Our street lights are sodium based which puts off a dim orange light. They were designed for bright white lights but the observatory started having trouble with light pollution as our city grew so they switched to the dim orange lights 20+ years ago.
The trouble with the sodium lights is that they overheat every so often and turn off until they cool down. Plus this neighborhood is over 50 years old so the trees are all nice and large and block the light. Yeah, it's dark.

Is it really's NASA's fault? I'll excuse them.
