its how deaf people use the telephone.

deaf person types to operator.
operator calls second person and tells second person what deaf person is typing.
second person replies to the operator.
operator types it to deaf person.

except i was introduced to it because people started using it as prank calls to get the operators to say stupid things.
example: i typed all the lyrics to bohemian rhapsody and the operator had to say them to my friend pavan <3
