Good on you for pushing the docs when they weren't doing anything that was working to help you. Seriously, despite what they are told in med school, docs are fallible ... And it's totally okay to question them, and not agree with them. Learned that lesson from best friend who's a doc ... All that said, it can be scary when u have to teach yourself so much just to be able to argue with the doc to do the right thing ...
Please look after yourself (and let Jon look after you), your back and health are more important then anything else right now :P
actually.... it wasn't me who pushed the docs. it was Jon. he was adament that I get myself in to see another doc with specific objectives : 1)reduce the pain enough to get me to work, 2) reduce the pain enough to get me through a nite's sleep.
otherwise, I would've just only gone to the physio therapist and stick it out with more pain.
Take care of yourself and make sure you deal with your ruptured disk properly right from the start. Sure it sucks in regards to the job in this environment but jobs come and go while your health is with you forever.
I had a really good friend of mine in Regina who ruptured his disk last year. (Like you he can't figure out how he did as he is our age and a professional - near as he can figure he must have done it while walking?!?) It took him over 6 months before things were back to normal but he didn't take it too seriously at first and that compounded the problem. He ended up in a hospital for almost two weeks and had to have a couple operations. This is not to scare you - had he taken the problem more seriously at the start it would not have been nearly so bad to treat.
oh man!! i hope you feel better soon! and april 17th is a LONG time away til you can get to see the neurosurgeon =( but make sure you take care of your self first.
(nodding) I'm trying. friends who knows me well, knows how I tend to overextend myself wrt work. so it's rather difficult for me to put work down and *rest*. but I'm trying.
yeah April 17th is a long time. but I'm calling everyday to see if any cancellations happens and they can slot me in for earlier. so far I've been able to move it up by 4 days. yay! :P

yeah, luckily, my boss thinks I'm worth keeping even if it means I might have to work on a reduced schedule. (at least for now)

What you said is not scaring me, but it is helping reinforce what all my wonderful friends has been telling me; take care of my health now.
It's also good to hear that it's not so rare for people our age to sustain this kind of injury. I'm not a freak, afterall :P
Thanks again for your words. I really do appreciate it.
