I didn't read far, but I was struck by something that bothered me in the second paragraph.

Your cousin immediately groups him/herself as a liberal and then sort of says, this is what most liberals think.

Nothing wrong with that except that it frames the whole argument as something that isn't really going to convince anyone. It states that this argument is only meritable on its political persuasion. Sort of.

I don't know. Why does your cousin insist on using labels?

Besides grammar, punctuation, fragments, and a few sentences that just don't make sense (Maddy pointed one out earlier), your cousin Mark seems like he has thought it through, and came to the "right" conclusion without the persuasion of a whole bunch of queers. Win.
