I agree with you on the architectural preferences. My dream apartment has always been an eastcoast brownstone with old, chipped hardwood floors, red brick walls, and traditional 4 pane windows.

yeah, that does sound ideal. the only thing for me that would top that is a large, multi-roomed house with vines growing in the cracks in the brick and windows. worn hardwood floors, old utilities, wall sconces that had to be fit for electricity, etc., etc., etc., etc., etc. i used to have a fantasy/plan of moving into a huge, ill-kept (possibly long-abandoned) victorian on a hill somewhere with a couple of friends, the house dilapidated (left to age unfettered, as i thought of it) to such a point as to have upstairs rooms with unorthodox "skylights" formed by rot and holes. heh!
