So, it looks like it's the end.......

Mar 09, 2022 16:05

As you may have seen Russia is going to be cutting off access to the internet come this Friday, so I imagine that will mean no more LJ. And yes, I know that probably a good thing due to what's going on in the world right about now, but selfishly it also means no more access to some of my old posts or friends lists. So I'm just dashing in here to ( Read more... )

I hadn't heard anything for sure about LJ going down, but it doesn't surprise me. I'm just wishing there was still something like LJ Archive around to download my more recent entries. I hate the idea of losing everything I've posted here. Although, to be honest, I haven't posted much of anything in recent years, so I may be good with the last backup I made.

It's good to hear from you, though! I'd been wondering how you were doing.

Try blogbooker.com - there is limited free access, and after that it's not hugely expensive. It saved my entire LJ, from August 2005 to now, as a pdf.

What is harder to do is save the archives of all those comms that used to run challenges and share fics.

Thanks! I wondered if there was working archiver out there... I'll give that one a try.

Interesting. And yes, loss of the communities would be the biggest worry.

Blogbooker.com will save your entire journal to a pdf. It gives you (I think 4) free goes, which I wasted because I couldn't remember my damn password. So I shelled out about £13 for it and now have the whole lot in one document, including comments and images. (Most of those have the bloody watermark of Photobucket on them, but that's another issue.) Worth a try with the free stuff - I know Kazzy_cee and Curiouswombat have done that.

Not with a bang but a whimper, because the bastards are saving the bangs for the innocent people of Ukraine. I've followed you on Twitter for yonks, of course.

In the grand scheme of things, losing LJ is trivial, and it's much worse for the ordinary Russians who don't deserve the monster in charge. But it still pisses me off.

Stay safe, Sue.

Thanks, going to try blogbooker. All my entries are on DW already, but I won't like losing my comments.

Oh I'm sure we'll all go up in a sheet of flame at this rate sadly. To me the future looks really bleak. :(

It's hard not to agree with you. Only a decade ago things felt optimistic, despite the b@st@rds in power. They have done their best to sell this country and crush what they could not make a profit from.

Sue, so good to see you post! I added you on DW, or whatever the term is. Yes, we're all going to need help.

Good to hear from you. I've added you to my DW circle, so we're good there. Losing LJ and all it's memories will be awful, but not as awful as what's going on in Ukraine.
