Interesting observation, and even not having been to Disneyland I'd have to agree with you that Disney World seems more overtly tied in to Disney TV and movies. I wonder, though, whether if some of that is due to the fact that back when Disneyland was built, Walt Disney was more devoted to the business of bringing classic fairy tales and similar stories (Treasure Island, Swiss Family Robinson, etc) to life. So a castle is not just a fairy-tale castle, but also a tie-in with a Disney film.
But now we have attractions that tie in with things like Lilo and Stitch and Monsters, Inc. You could definitely tell the newer attractions from the old by what they were based on. That, and the fact that a lot of the newer attractions relied on screens and 3D glasses for your enjoyment ( ... )
