Struck by Lighting; second viewing (with spoilers)

Jun 17, 2012 21:36

I watched a screening of Struck by Lightning again, this time in a small cinema at the Provincetown International Film Fesitval in Provincetown, MA. The screening was the second of two at the festival, and the audience members were a mix of Chris Colfer fans and festival goers, as far as I could tell. Unlike the screening at Tribeca (the premiere ( Read more... )

Thank you for the review! The more I read about this movie, the more I want to see it.

It seems like the kind of film that should be seen more than once. Not just because Chris is in it, but because it seems like there's a lot going on, and probably a lot of little moments that people might miss the first time around. I know with some movies and TV shows, I need to see them more than once because I'm focused on the main story or a particular character, and there's a lot of stuff going on in the background that I literally can't even see the first time. I have to consciously try to focus on the other characters or minor plot lines the next time.

Thanks! I think that is the case, which is why I am glad I got a second chance (and I told Brian this, too, as did someone I don't know). I picked up things the second time, little lines about taking advantage of life, and I got to focus on the others, as you say, who were more secondary (like the father, or Claire). It's a really strong movie, and I hope it gets a lot of acclaim. It deserves it. It's not superficial, and I fear that it will be marketed as just a coming-of-age movie, when it is so much more than that.

They really need to be carefully how they promote it, and make certain they have a decent poster. It can influence whether you want to find out anything further about the movie, or just dismiss it as not your thing ( ... )

A lovely review of SBL :) My favorite part is the part about Carson's family drama. I can't wait to see that on my screen! It sounds so interesting and meaningful and I think I'll love it.

Ugh! I need this movie RIGHT NOW.

Thank you so much. :) Yes, the family drama is the best. I can't wait for you to see it, too. December, I hope!

It really is, and it's such a good film. I hope it gets a good audience; the film is worth, and the acting is stellar.

After reading both your reviews I just can't wait for it to be released internationally. Which will probably be later than December ... *sighs*

In this viewing, I really felt Carson's rage, when he screamed at the Student Council for not caring enough about themselves to challenge the principal's ignorance. It's not just an exercise in futility; their indifference genuinely pains him. I felt sucker punched when Carson confronted his mother about not getting into Northwestern because she threw away his acceptance letter.

I cannot wait to see this movie, and these scenes in particular (...mostly since I know very little about what happens aside from this). I'm sure Chris' performance is very impressive. It truly sounds like a very compelling story; I'm happy to hear that it's quite dark in the second half.

It's about family dynamics, about resolve, contentment, and how everything matters in relationshipsI'm happy to hear this as well; it sounds so interesting. I have high expectations but I doubt I'll be disappointed. Chris grew up to be such an intelligent young man. I'm so proud of him for writing a film like this even though I haven't seen it yet. Thank you for this ( ... )

Thanks for reeading the review! :) Yes, it's very dark in the last hallf. In some ways, it feels like a different movie, but since it still has Carson has the protagonist, it helps explain why he is how he is and it's so brilliantly acted and written. I think you really like it! I can't wait for everyone to see it!
