Oh, that sounds like wonderful fun. I wish I had some workout place close by, but the nearest from work is 20 minutes away. From home, its 30 mins. It sounds like you are really on the right path. I'm so happy for you. Good luck.
It's sad that you don't have easy access. When I walked in last night and one of the staff asked why I didn't have a membership yet, I had to confess that it was because I was lazy and our tiny gym was convenient. If it's not convenient, I won't go steadily and it'll be a waste.
But honestly, this gym is a walk away. If I can get moving in the mornings, I can go and workout before work and the wife can pick me up from the gym on her way. *crosses fingers*
And if in two weeks, I'm not going because it's too far away (and I'm lazy), there's no contract to get out of. I can just cancel my membership and be done.
Last night was kind of rough. I thought I was in decent enough shape (ha!), but Zumba taught me differently right off the bat. I'm looking forward to it kicking my butt for the foreseeable future.
The weird thing about exercise is that it can be addictive. So ride that wave of enthusiasm, honey, and ENJOY yourself :) I keep meaning to try zumba for all the reasons you talk about here.
The weird thing about exercise is that it can be addictive. This is very, very true. The natural 'high' I get from a good workout is amazing.
Tomorrow is another zumba class. My big decision is whether to check out the step class before it as well. If nothing else, the step class is free and if I'm overdoing it, I'd feel no guilt leaving it early to rest before zumba.
I'd like to at least check out the instructor, I think.
I heard about Zumba for the first time from a student at the writing center, and she was writing about how addicting and fun it is. You might try to find out if there are any free sessions of Zumba in your area. We have some local churches that have classes for free.
I went just the once when I had a free pass, and I made it through. I don't have great lung capacity, so I had to stop several times to get water. It's great fun, though, and that's what your exercise routine SHOULD be: fun and invigorating. It should be something you do for yourself, not because you 'have to.' No one ever made us go outside and play!
I've been meaning to join the Y, but I'm afraid of not being able to afford it once my roommate moves out. I need to fill out a scholarship application. That way I can do my walking on a treadmill in the air conditioning, instead of around the neighborhood in the evenings.
I did a search initially. Aside from the various fitness centers, there are supposed to be some classes at the park down the road, but when I went to actually find the full information, the site was... not setup properly, let's just say.
It wore me out and I know I was dry by the end of it, but I didn't want to leave!
No one ever made us go outside and play! Um... well, actually.... >D I know exactly what you mean, though. And zumba IS fun. I'm confident enough (and wise enough in a 'been there, done that' way) that I'm okay with taking things at my limits, but I also won't/don't push myself as hard as a class like this. All perks a class like this can offer
