STOP!!!!

My ears are bleeding. Some one save me. I'm listening to an internet holiday radio station and they just played "Last Christmas." Though it was sung by Darren Hayes (of Savage Garden) which is one tiny step better than Wham. But it's still a stupid song.

And a random joke for the day....

Why do bagpipers walk when they play??

I really do hate that song. With a fiery passion.

On the information for the song it said Rosie O'Donnell was also going to be one of the singers. But I never heard her singing. That really would have been awful.

Baaad joke. Baaaaad. :P

You know the boy plays (uh... ok, played) the bagpipes?

I have had much experience on the pipe band competition circuit you know. I had a flare for tennor drum, I could do stick acrobatics leik woah.

...never cared much for the solo pipes mindyou but the drum cores were f*in' awesome, and the massed bands- 600 players. You know like a vocoder takes an out-of-tune note and pushes it a bit to make it in tune...?

One piper sounds out of tune. 300 pipers all slightly differently out of tune becomes like some weird chaos theory instrument and makes itself in tune again. It's very interesting.
Recordings don't do it justice mindyou, there's tones that recordings can't pick up. It's an astounding experience and makes you understand why it's still *technically* classified as a weapon of war.
It's surprisingly good at the troop-rallying.

That and the whiskey.

And all the men in kilts.

And the caber-tossing.

*brain wanders off*

That is true. A whole gaggle of bagpipes each individually out of tune just adds to the overall sound. When I went to college there was a bagpiper that used to practice in the football stadium parking lot (lots of room to walk) that was across the street from my apartment. He would practice really early Saturday mornings and would wake me up every time. They are very loud. Probably why it was good at troop-rallying.

Oh hell yeah, they are VERY loud. There's a reason all pipers are either deaf or own stock in earplugs.

Used to make my granny's dog howl when the boy would fist-foot at new year. Pipes, indoors, at nightnight.
Ouch.
He played in the millenium though. He had half the street out on their front lawns to watch, which, given the apathetically antisocial nature of the people rouns here is a LOT more impressive than it sounds.

That sounds fun. Much better than the pots and pans my neighbors "played."

I heard that the other day and thought how can there possibly be 2 versions of this.

Why oh why did Darren Hayes think the world needed 2 versions of Last Christmas? One was more than enough!

Hmmm I know a joke about why Scotch men wear kilts, but aside of that I think kilts are damn sexy.

I have no idea how bad those bagpipes can sound so I won't say a thing.

Definitely can be very sexy on the right man. And very scary on the wrong man.

I just went to a wedding where when it came time for the bride and groom to walk out down the aisle, a bagpiper came from the back of the church and escorted them out. It was very cool, and he sounded great (didn't look too bad, either!).
