The people on the bus go CRAZY CRAZY CRAZY all through the town.

Given that I am unemployed and spend most of my time these days looking at boring job postings and cooking food, I believe I can safely say that the bus is one of the most interesting things in my life right now. Today, this was more true than usual. Unfortunately ( Read more... )

- it was so totally drugs.
- i get really scared of belligerent people on buses. mainly because you're kind of trapped with them.
- i remember a guy who wanted to bring his little dog on the bus, which apparently wasn't allowed (have you seen the hordes of little dogs in sf yet?), and he told the bus driver, "it's a seeing eye dog!" and the bus driver said, "that dog is too small to be a seeing eye dog!" and the guy said, "well, it's a small vision problem."
- i am very, very irritated by people who pretend not to notice old people who can barely walk getting on the bus and just sit there. i give up my seat if i have one -- and i think it is a privilege that i can do it -- because i *am* strong enough to stand the whole way if i have to.

*Eek, any reason why you think that?
*Yes! Oh man, and there are so many of them here!
*That's a funny story! And yes, I have seen the tons of little dogs here. I heard another funny story about them on the bus home actually: a guy wants to take his dog on the bus and the driver says he has to pay for it. The guy counters, "He's under 5," because there are signs on the bus that say "Under 5: FREE" and make no mention of being about kids. I don't know if it worked, but it was cute.
*I am going to go ahead and admit I am not as virtuous as you. Sure, I will always get up for an elderly person if I am the one who needs to, but I also usually wait a tick to see if anybody else wants to get up first. However, for anybody who really looks like they are having trouble I will get up right away. So maybe I am not too bad?

I find the character of buses in different cities very interesting. For example, in Boston when I took the bus, they were generally full of pretty cool black people, with the exception of a few pushy black women, and students, so it was generally a quiet ride. Here in DC, the bus I take to work is very sparsely populated in comparison to the squashed rides I was used to back home, and the clientelle is much more diverse, from professionals to working class of all races. There are also people here who like to talk very loudly on their phones, usually in some language I've never heard of, which makes me turn my ipod up very loud, but that's about the extent of my annoyance. There really aren't any crazy people. And of course, buses in Paris were generally packed with tourists, but that's because I was there during the summer and I took them very infrequently. I'll add your description of San Francisco to the list, although I must say, I've very surprised at your findings. Hope the crazy, sketchy people leave you alone and ( ... )
