Title: Top of the World
Rating: Shy & Coy - For those chapters/parts of a fic that are building up to the action, and dealing with storyline, but do not have anything remotely sexual involved.
Paring: Bri/Stef
Summary: Brian’s father had been informed that Brian had been involved in a gang fight, and had given the other boys ‘what for’ before they overcame him. While the story got Brian grounded for a week on the principal that he shouldn’t be fighting, (the same week he spent immobile at home anyways), it saved him from dealing with his father’s ‘disappointed’ fists for being a ‘pansy’.
This chapter is a plot builder, so bear with me…

http://vainwithglitter.livejournal.com/35635.html#cutid1 “I-I don’t think I got to thank you properly for what you did last week.” Brian said nervously. Stefan scuffed his toe on the sidewalk.
“Don’t worry about it.” He said sounding just as nervous. It was Brian’s first day back at school since the ‘incident’. When it had become apparent that Brian was no more capable of walking home the next morning than he had been the night before, Gyp had called Brian’s mother. And true to her spirit, Mrs. Molko had immediately taken Brian to the hospital. It hadn’t been a particularly pleasant visit, especially when the doctors became frustrated that he wouldn’t tell them who had beat him up. Although he did get to stay home from school for the rest of the week, and part of the next, so Brian wasn’t complaining too much. Brian’s father had been informed that Brian had been involved in a gang fight, and had given the other boys ‘what for’ before they overcame him. While the story got Brian grounded for a week on the principal that he shouldn’t be fighting, (the same week he spent immobile at home anyways), it saved him from dealing with his father’s ‘disappointed’ fists for being a ‘pansy’.
It was funny how all of the jocks had appeared to be avoiding Brian as he hobbled from class to class (he had left the crutches at home, but his ankle was still sore). Gyp rarely left Brian’s side, giving everyone the evil eye, as if daring them to even look at Brian. While it became a little tiring after a while, it did make Brian feel much better to know that he had someone looking out for him.
“I uh, hope Gyp wasn’t too hard on you.” Brian said taking a stab at starting a conversation. Stefan shook his head and then shrugged.
“She wasn’t too bad-besides she was just worried about you. She has every right to be mad at me…the jocks weren’t too nice to her either.”
“True.” Brian said shifting uncomfortably.
“So uh, how’s the pain? Did the doctors give you anything?” Brian grinned.
“Yeah! They gave me this really strong stuff…but I have a history of abusing meds.” He shrugged and wrinkled his nose. “So my mom hides it and only gives me the allotted dosage.” Stefan didn’t know how to respond to that.
“Oh.”
Brian laughed. “Not a big deal, really. But no chance of recreation.” Again, Stefan had no idea how to respond. Brian raised his eyebrows.
“You’ve never done that?” Stefan shook his head and then shrugged. “What kind of sick universe are you jocks living in?” Stefan laughed.
“You forget I’m not a jock anymore.” Brian frowned.
“Did you get kicked off the team?” He asked concernedly. Stefan shook his head.
“No, they can’t do that. I resigned.”
“Why?” Brian asked in shock.
“Basketball’s not worth having to deal with Marcus, Ian, Ben, and the rest of those idiots. I got labelled, and now the rest of the school knows.” Brian frowned.
“I’m really sorry…I know that’s my fault.” Stefan shrugged.
“It would have come out sooner or later. To be honest, I’m surprised Ian kept it quiet as long as he did…”
“Do-do you mind me asking what happened?” Brian asked tentatively. Stefan shook his head.
“Nah. Ian walked in on me kissing some bloke I had met at the cinema. Nothing scarring, but I managed to convince Ian not to tell anyone. To be honest, I’m not quite sure why he didn’t. I mean you know him, he’s homophobic and…” Stefan trailed off, shrugging. “I think I told him some cock and bull story about pent up hormones or some shit…”
“How long ago was that?” Brian asked. Stefan squinted as he thought.
“But I mean, if it hadn’t been for me, you could have probably made it to the end of the year without anyone finding out, and then you would have graduated, and no one would have ever known.”
“I was tired of hiding, Brian.” Stefan said. “I know I told you that you’d ruined my life, but to be honest, I don’t think I’ve ever felt so liberated.” He grinned. “I was going to come out before I left school anyways. It just happened sooner than I had planned. I shouldn’t have shouted at you like that, I’m sorry. I think I was just a little shocked…and you were sitting in my lap, looking particularly stunning.” He grinned as Brian blushed.
“I thought you didn’t like girls.” Brian muttered.
“Well, who said I thought you looked like one?” Brian frowned. “Brian, I knew you were a boy.”
“Oh…then why didn’t you say anything.” Brian asked, perplexed.
“Because even I need a laugh here and there, Brian.” Brian giggled.
“Really.”
“Yes.” There was silence for a minute as Brian examined his fingers. “Um, Brian?”
“Yeah?”
“There’s this new film coming out,” He ran his hand through his hair. “And I was wondering if you-you know, wanted to go?” Great Stefan, don’t even tell him the name of the film! Stefan nearly hit himself, but then paused as Brian grinned.
“Sure!”
“Really? You mean it?”
“Yeah! So, this is like a-a date, right?” Stefan nodded nervously. Brian’s grin became, if possible, even bigger. “Perfect.”
Stefan’s heart leapt. “Great!” He stopped himself from lunging at Brian and hugging him like an insane maniac…but just barely. “Great.” He said again. “Um, are you free tonight?” Brian nodded.
“What time?”
“It’s not like I do my homework anyway, so whenever it suits your fancy, is fine with me.”
Stefan would have dearly loved to say that Brian suited his fancy more than anything, but he refrained. “Well I think the film starts at 7:30…” Brian beamed.
“Excellent.” Stefan grinned back, feeling rather giddy.
“Um-I’ll pick you up around seven, then?” Brian nodded happily. “I think I can get my dad’s car…” Brian looked like he was about to burst.
“That’d be awesome!” He paused a minute. “So…do I have a dress code or anything?” Stefan looked at him puzzled.
“What?”
“Well I was just thinking that I might upset you if I showed up looking like people’s worst idea of a fag…” He blushed, and Stefan blinked.
“Of course not! Brian-” Stefan swallowed as he felt his face grow hot. “Brian I want you to dress how you wanna dress, and not worry what the fuck anyone else says.” Brian smiled shyly.
“Ok. So…I’ll see you tonight then?”
“Tonight.” Brian grinned and then quite suddenly swore.
“Fuck! I’ve gotta go, Stefan. See you tonight!” He turned and scampered off with a wave.

Brian pounded on Gypsum’s door. “Gyp I need help!” He said frantically. The door opened a second later revealing a worried Gyp.
“What is it Brian?” She gasped staring at his flushed face. “What’s wrong?”
“Gyp, hurry! I only have three hours to get ready!”
“To get ready for what?” Gyp asked bewildered.
“My date!” Brian squealed shrilly.
